
Pregnancy
Alpacas are quite unpredictable in terms of the length of their gestation period. Generally, however, gestation should be around 335 days with approximately another week added on for spring births. We have had early pregnancies (usually no more than a few days) and very late arrivals. A male cria stayed so long inside his 'cooker' (365 days) he was a huge 11kgs by the time he arrived and his front legs were bent for the first few days. With room to move and stretch his wee body and some running around he is now perfectly straightened out. For more detailes birthing information see our pages about:
