And now to us!

We are Allister and Claire Perry, alpaca breeders from the outskirts of Dunedin, a city in the Otago region of the lower South Island of New Zealand. We are owners and breeders of these truly enchanting and fascinating animals.

Our journey into the farming of alpacas began by doing just what you are probably doing right now – searching the web for information.

In the year 2000 we decided to exit the rat race of city life and head for the country. It was the best decision we have ever made. While searching for the right farmlet real estate agents would ask what we were going to use the land for. That was the tricky part as we weren't sure, then one momentous day an agent said how she would love to have land and run alpacas. Our response was, "alpacas - what are they?" That was the beginning of the search to learn more and this is our final destination – farming alpacas. Life couldn't be better!

We have learned so much over the years and thought we would share our experiences with you. So feel free to click away.

But before you head off to delve into the other pages our boxer dogs, Buddy and Yana, are feeling a bit left out by all the attention their mates the alpacas are getting so they want to show you that they're cute too. Buddy's obsession is with toys, especially balls. Here's one of my favourite photos of him.

Buddy ball boy!

Yana, our female boxer, is related to Buddy - she is his niece. Yana is fun loving, energetic and a really loyal dog. Here's a wee pic of her playing in the Dunedin snow.

Yana the snow queen!
